A380 BIGGEST PLANE IN WORLD AT TORONTO PEARSON AIRPORT

The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. The largest passenger airliner in the world, the A380 made its maiden flight on 27 April 2005 from Toulouse, France,[3] and made its first commercial flight on 25 October 2007 from Singapore to Sydney with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development phase, but the nickname Superjumbo has since become associated with it.

The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the fuselage, and its width is equivalent to that of a widebody aircraft. This allows for a cabin with 50% more floor space than the next-largest airliner, the Boeing 747-400,[4] and provides seating for 525 people in a typical three-class configuration[5][6] or up to 853 people in all economy class configurations.[7] The A380-800, the passenger model, is the largest passenger airliner in the world, but has a shorter fuselage than the Airbus A340-600, which is Airbus's next-biggest passenger aeroplane. The A380-800F, the freighter model, was offered as one of the largest freight aircraft, with a payload capacity exceeded only by the Antonov An-225.[8] The design and production of the freighter was pushed back indefinitely, and outstanding orders were canceled. The A380-800 has a design range of 15,200 km (8,200 nmi), sufficient to fly from Boston to Hong Kong for example, and a cruising speed of Mach 0.85 (about 900 km/h or 560 mph at cruising altitude).[5] It is the first commercial jet capable of using GTL-based fuel.

SATINDER SARTAJ SONG HEEREAE

DR SATINDER SARTAJ PERFORMING LIVE AT LIVING ARTS CENTER MISSISSAUGA LIVE

His voice and lyrics truly reflect the great effort he has put into the music he makes. The songs sung by him definitely cannot be categorized as any other random punjabi songs. He has the unique ability of mesmerizing an audience by the sheer force of his presence. He's a man who will definitely reach the unreachable heights soon. Satinder Sartaj- The rising star of the punjabi music industry.

Living in the sleepy village of Bajrawarpur in Hoshiarpur , the prodigious child, Satinder was too naïve to understand and realize the phenomenon of ecological growth.

Curiously, he used to marvel at the beauty and fragrance of flowers, spectrum of rainbow, the water springs in the calm surroundings besides the melodic strains of music that flowed from a flute and sarangi which the wandering folk and sufi musicians played.

As a child he developed a taste for the pristine Punjabi folklore and the sufiana qalaams though seemingly it was not within his conceptual grasp. However an intense yearning to learn and imbibe the rich mysticism of sufiana music dominated in his educational career.

Following the dictates of his inner soul, Satinder concentrated on his sufiana musical career having done his M. Phil in Sufi gayan and is pursuing a doctorate in Sufi gayan from Punjab University. With a view to have an intimate feel of the divine effulgence and mystic experiences of the greats like Jalludin Rumi , Shams Tabrezi from Iran , Satinder had secured a diploma in Persian with distinction.

Reveling in the glory of the mysticism of Baba Farid, Bulle Shah, Sultan Bahu, Shah Hussain and others, the accomplished singer Satinder Pal had just recorded an album of Sufi gayan being released shortly.

Cancelled Calgary concert raises kirpan questions

Gurdas Maan live in concert 2009 calgary cancelled

Some are calling it a clash of culture and corporate policy.Calgary police were summoned Sunday night when several dozen people were turned away from the Telus convention centre from a concert by Gurdas Maan, a popular Punjabi folk artist.Security officials wouldn't allow entry to many who had paid $100 per ticket because they were wearing kirpans, ceremonial daggers of religious significance to Sikhs.Officials with the convention centre says they have a no-weapons policy, though many in the crowd were upset at having the kirpan characterized as a weapon. When the argument between concertgoers and security guards got heated, police were called in.One concertgoer says the same show was staged in Toronto and Vancouver with no problems, and he couldn't understand why it was a problem in Calgary.
CALGARY — The show will go on this afternoon for Punjabi singing superstar Gurdas Maan, whose concert was stopped amid controversy in Calgary on Sunday night.
Promoter Nirmal Dhaliwal said Maan will perform an open-air make-up performance beginning at 3 p.m. at Prairie Winds Park in northeast Calgary.
Ticketholders from Sunday night's aborted show will get priority seating inside the venue being set up at the park, but walk-up crowds are also welcome to watch and listen from outside the fence, Dhaliwal said.
"We will try to do everything the best we can," the promoter said in an interview this morning.
Hundreds of upset concertgoers spilled onto the streets around the Telus Convention Centre Sunday night after Maan's show was shut down mid-performance.
Dhaliwal said the trouble started when convention-centre security guards refused entry to patrons who were wearing the kirpan — a ceremonial dagger carried by some observant Sikhs.
Despite explanations from Dhaliwal and others that the kirpan isn't considered a weapon, convention-centre officals refused to budge.
Dhaliwal said at the time there were about 10 Sikhs — mainly older men — who were initially denied entry. The promoter said he even offered to personally assume responsibility for their conduct and escort them to seats backstage but the venue's general manager wouldn't agree.
"They were stubborn — they wouldn't listen," Dhaliwal said.
Dhaliwal admitted that emotions ran high at the doors when the group was told they couldn't get in, but even so, he said, that was no reason to end the concert in progress.
"They had no right to pull the plug on the show when inside the hall wasn't a problem," he said.
Considering Maan's Punjabi heritage and his wide popularity in India and abroad, some concertgoers were incredulous that security staff wouldn't have been better educated about the kirpan's importance to Sikhs.
"They should have expected this, and accepted this," said Bhola Singh Chuahan.
Wearing the kirpan is considered a central requirement of the Sikh faith and it is meant to symbolize courage, dignity and a follower's readiness to defend the weak and oppressed.
"We respect Canadian laws," said Amarjit Singh, who was wearing a kirpan underneath his blazer.
Singh said he couldn't understand why kirpans were being barred from the convention centre when Sikh parliamentarians have long been allowed to wear them inside the House of Commons.
"This is part of our religion," he said, likening it to a Christian wearing a crucifix.
Maan, often called "India's Michael Jackson," attracted a family-heavy crowd made up parents, children and grandparents.
Security staff were turning away "ladies, even kids. We tried to talk to them, but nobody listened." said Ranbir Singh Parmar.
At about 9:30 p.m., the show was ended and police were called to help empty the concert hall.
Parmar, like hundreds of others milling around the street outside, waited for relatives who had already made it inside the concert to make their way out.
"This is a Punjabi show. People can go to Stampede with a kirpan; why not here?" asked Parmar.
Police officers ringed the entrances to the convention centre, and the HAWCS helicopter circled overhead.
The crowd dispersed largely without incident, but officers were seen making arrests.

GURDAS MANN IN TORONTO ON AUGUST 15, 2009

WHO IS GURDAS MANN?

Gurdas Maan was born on 4th January, 1957 in Giddarbaha, Muktsar District, Punjab, India. His song "Dil Da Mamala Hai" brought him to national attention in India in 1980. He has recorded over 27 albums. Gurdas Maan was formally educated in Malout. After completing his education, his parents moved him to Patiala for further studies. He is of Sikh faith. The city fascinated him especially because it was home to the National Institute of Sports, as Gurdas Maan is a keen sports enthusiast. He joined the N.I.S and gained a Masters Degree in Physical Education. He took part in youth festivals organized by various universities and won numerous awards for his singing and acting. He competed in many athletic events and won medals including a bronze at the National Championship. He is also a black belt in Judo. In one of his stage play he sang a song which he wrote himself and called "Dil da mamla hai". The play was seen by a producer of a Jalandhar TV station, who then approached him for a TV recording of his song, which Gurdas reluctantly agreed to. When the song was aired on December 31, 1980 it stormed the nation and Gurdas Maan became a household name. The overwhelming success of the song grabbed the attention of HMV who wanted to record the song and from this came his second album in 1981.He has produced over 27 albums and has written over 200 songs. He also wrote and directed TV programs like POP Time for Doordarshan Delhi. When Gurdas Maan started his career as a performer, there was no market for solo singers, as the market was dominated by the duets. He declined many offers to perform as a duet as he was confident of becoming successful as a solo artist. Even today when organizers arrange for a group of artists to perform, he always perform solo. He has toured the globe and charmed audiences with his versatile performances.Credit goes to Gurdas Maan for raising Punjabi music from a mere regional level to an international level by giving it a fresh look. The ever-popular "Apna Punjab hove" track has surpassed all other songs by Gurdas Maan. This track has received awards for The Best Song, Album & Best International Artist of the Asian Pop and Media Awards held in Birmingham in 1998. This song was orgnially written by Makhan Brar, who lives in Toronto. As Gurdas Mann was performing in his concert in Toronto, Makhan Brar handed this song to him. It became a hit at that concert. Later on Gurdas Maan added a last verse to this song "marjaane Maana kion Punjab Janda khind da" and included it in his forthcoming album. He starred in the hit film "Shaheed Udham Singh", where his true personality was highlighted as a Sikh man with no prejudices based on religion, caste or creed. As a singer Gurdas Maan has worked with music directors like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Nadeem Sharvan, Amar Haidipur, Charanjeet Ahuja, Jaswant Bhanyra to mention but a few. He has also recently starred alongside Juhi Chawla in the epic "Des Hoyaa Pardes". An emotive film illustrating the tragedies faced by the people of 1980s Punjab. His role is that of the son of a well-respected Jatt (farmer) Gurdev Singh Somal. He falls in love with the SOH's daughter. Before the wedding, the father is murdered by separatists. This tale soon twists in to the inevitable demise of Gurshaan (Gurdas Maan). This movie was based on actual events.Aside from singing in Punjabi, he is fluent in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Haryanvi and Rajasthani. As an actor he has performed in Punjabi, Hindi and Tamil movies, most recently "Waris Shah - Ishq Daa Waaris," a depiction of the Punjabi poet Waris Shah's creation of his epic poem Heer Ranjha, again co-starring Juhi Chawla. Also he did a speacial apperence in Veer-Zaara with Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta

ROMEY GILL PASSED AWAY - TRIBUTE TO ROMI GILL

ROMEY GILL gave the youth of Punjab many a foot-tapping Bhangra pop numbers that were a hit with disc jockeys and wedding parties. Be it Dhru Tara or Nehron Paar Bangala, Romy Gill had everyone dancing to his tunes, quite literally. But when the singer, believed to be in his early thirties, suffered a cardiac arrest on Wednesday and passed away, there was no crowd to give him a memorable send-off. He died quietly at a local hospital.
Gill is survived by his wife and two children.
The world of Punjabi music, too, remained rather untouched by the sad demise of one of its shinning stars. The cremation was attended by close family members and only a few well-known names like Jagdev Singh Jassowal and Sukhwinder Sukhi.
